Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

·         Diagnose and treat instability in the throwing athlete.    

·         Describe and choose between surgical techniques and rehabilitation principles for shoulder impingement syndromes and shoulder labral injuries.

·         Recognize elbow anatomy and apply the treatment options for instability and chronic tendon pathology.

·         Understand and describe and apply the treatment options for disorders of the patellofemoral joint.

·         Demonstrate advanced clinical examination principles, surgical indications, and rehabilitation techniques for the treatment of knee and shoulder injuries.

·         Describe and implement the special considerations needed in diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating injuries in the skeletally immature athlete.

·         Describe and recommend the most effective surgical techniques for treatment of knee and shoulder injuries.

·         Identify and describe the operative and rehabilitative options for total joint replacement of the knee, hip and shoulder.

·         Identify the current methods of treatment for articular cartilage damage in the throwing shoulder.

·         Explain the surgical and rehabilitation options following high tibial osteotomy.

·         Explain the principles of meniscus transplantation and repair.

·         Describe the treatment options for and rehabilitation principles of hip labrum injuries in the athlete.

·         Evaluate and treat common foot and ankle injuries in athletes.

·         Recognize the treatment and recommend prevention techniques of common medical problems seen in sports including venous thrombosis, sports-related concussions and sports psychology.

The Sports Medicine Symposium of the Americas will be of value to physicians, physician assistants, athletic trainers, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, personal trainers and other professionals involved in the prevention, care and treatment of sports injuries.
